| Aren't They Flimsy These Days? | | The British gentlemen will not go anywhere without his top hat and his brolly. It was standard attire to carry an umbrella in those Victorian times. Now, it is just a functional piece we carry around in case it pours rain from high heaven. But guess, what the umbrellas these days don't last They have a flimsy structure and the stem is weak. Go out on a stormy day and the umbrella will just break up under the wind and tumultuous rain. The worse culprits are the foldable umbrellas. They just cannot stand even a strong breeze. Are the manufacturers short changing us by using weak steel structures for our umbrellas or has the weather really been hard on us humans lately? What do you think?[em]devil[/em] | |
| | Quim | | Now thats a word we dont see used very often these days.
Quim!!!!The noun quim was a Victorian-era word that was used specifically to refer to the fluids produced by the vagina, specifically during orgasm. In modern usage it is primarily heard in British slang and is a derogatory or vulgar term for the vagina itself. The word is rarely used today in English slang but used in Wales as an insult rather than the above meaning. The word may be related to Welsh 'cwm' meaning 'hollow' or 'valley'.I find this quite strange as anyone who watched Braveheart will know, the word was used in the film when Wallace or maybe the other dude in a kilt sniffed his hand, I cant remember as it was a shite film anyway and didnt even have a real Scotsman in the lead role.So it wasnt a Victorian Era word, it was used in 13th Century Scotland.Anyway, Do you like this word?
Have you ever used it? The word I mean, not your Quim.
Would you use the word on here in place of the word that starts with P and ends with ssy
Dont know if I would and I know I would never use it if trying to explain a medical issue.
My doctor might not be aware of what a Quim is, him not speaking very good...
| | Do you know how to treat female hysteria? | | Female hysteria was a once-common medical diagnosis, made exclusively in women, which is today no longer recognized by modern medical authorities as a medical disorder. Its diagnosis and treatment were routine for many hundreds of years in Western Europe. Hysteria was widely discussed in the medical literature of the Victorian era. Women considered to be suffering from it exhibited a wide array of symptoms including faintness, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, heaviness in abdomen, muscle spasm, shortness of breath, irritability, loss of appetite for food or sex, and "a tendency to cause trouble".Since ancient times women considered to be suffering from hysteria would sometimes undergo "pelvic massage" — manual stimulation of the genitals by the doctor until the patient experienced "hysterical paroxysm" (orgasm).Such cases were quite profitable for physicians, since the patients were at no risk of death and required constant treatment. However, the vaginal massage procedure was difficult and very time consuming for a physician (usually a man) to master so often it was passed on to a midwife to complete.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Female_hysteriaDid you know... | |

| | Shane Warne to ease tensions between India and Australia | | It has been announced today that Australian Cricketing legend Shane Warne will be meeting with the Victorian government next month to discuss ways to mend the relationship between Australia and India after several attacks on Indian students in the Australian state of Victoria in recent times. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/shane-warne-to-ease-unrest/story-e6frf7jo-1225823096194The Victorian government are hoping that Shane Warne's popularity in the cricket loving India will be able to rebuild the relationship that has been strained in the last few months. The Australian government have already sent officials over to India to try and ease the tensions, but there have been more attacks since then and I guess they are hoping the shared love of cricket will help the matter. What do you think? Can Warney bowl over the Indians with his charm?[em]wub[/em]Or will he and the Aussie government be hit for six?[em]rolleyes[/em] | |
| | A favorite place | | When I moved where I live now I often liked to sit on Weston super Mare Pier. I enjoyed fine coastal views from it. It was sad news when I heard it had been badly damaged by a fire. Its owners are currently rebuilding it. On my driving lesson today I drove past it today and it is gaining shape. It is hoped it will be re-opened on 25th June 2010. I shall be able to go back that favorite place of mine when I get home from my trip to Canada. A pier is a structure that is built from the street, across the beach and into the sea. It is on high stilts. Lovely coastal views can be enjoyed. There are many different piers in my home country. Clevedon Pier is a Victorian pier with a tea shop at the end of it. I remember spending a delightfully sunny early autumn afternoon on it. That was a blissful experience. Do you have a favorite place in your local area?
If so what is it?
If so what is special about it?
| | How different is the fashion now from before? | | Fashion enchants me and in different eras they serves as the mirror that reflects the lifestyles of the people during the different particular period in history. Some says the fashion today is just a repetitive cycles, their are only revise or renovate to adopt to the modern times but basically when one have to study the root of fashion the basic foundation is the past eras. Most of the design of the clothes before are quite exquisite based from the textiles being used and most have particular like to have their own unique design as they are all particularly laid back. They could afford expensive clothing such as during the Victorian era where the elite dresses fashionably while being exempted are the peasants. While now days, most of the IN THINGS today in terms of fashion were fairly made of simple fabrics fabrics, light and very casual like wash and wear. Minimalism is the most spoken fashion as everyone like it in casual clothing for those who are ready to go.How about you, What do you think are the clothing differences before and as of the current time? Kindly shares your thoughts. thanks.

| | Antique Lovers - Which are your favorites? | | When you think of antiques and you go into an antiquity store what are you most likely to appreciate the most? When I go into one of these stores, what grabs my attention is the furniture! I love the oak finish. I actually have a preferred era, too. I really love and appreciate the items from the Victorian and Shakespearean era. Now if I were to look at wall furnishings I really like the Victorian and Edwardian. How about you? What do you really like about antiquities? | |
| | Sherlock Holmes Movie.. | | Have You seen this Movie? Have you been a reader of the Holmes books, now or in the past,or been a viewer of previous movie or tv versions of this iconic Character? I quite enjoyed the Movie, being a reader of the books, and not so much of the previous movie or TV output..but I think it brought the London setting for the Holmes stories to vibrant, eventful life! You could boil the Movie down to being a Buddy Movie, with Holmes and his Friend,Dr Watson as the Leads (Robert Downey,Jr,and Jude Law respectively)..The books are pretty much Guys only stories, with little female contribution, apart from the Stalwart housekeeper, and the occasional female Client..The Movie lifts Holmes' one female Adversary from the books,Irene Adler, and gives Her a sizeable role..Lestrade of the Yard is the Detective usually left holding Holmes' coat at a crime scene, and various baddies chew the scenery..Not being that familiar with London in Victorian times,or even present day, apparently there are goofs in the geography..eg-how does one character get from The Palace of Westminster to Tower Bridge on foot in a few minutes when apparently they're separated by several miles in reality?! It's a minor issue if you... | |
| | How should I decorate my bedroom? | | My wife and I just bought our first house and we're trying to decide on a style for our bedroom. My wife wants some classic traditional Victorian type furniture, but I want something modern, like what you'd see at IKEA except not quite so cheap. Those kind of styles don't really merge too well, but we can't think of any way to combine them.I've been reading a lot of stuff trying to get some ideas ( http://hkcfurniture.com/ ) but nothing helps.I really don't want an old victorian look ing room, and she said she doesn't want our room to look like an IKEA catalog. How should we resolve this? Thanks!familiar with London in Victorian times,or even present day, apparently there are goofs in the geography..eg-how does one character get from The Palace of Westminster to Tower Bridge on foot in a few minutes when apparently they're separated by several miles in reality?! It's a minor issue if you don't have the London Cabbie's "Knowledge".. So..What do you think? would you go see this Movie,or not? | |
